How to Buy from Xianyu as a Foreigner
Ask clearer questions about a second-hand listing, agree on visible checks and understand the limits before approving a Xianyu purchase.
Treat the listing as a starting point
A second-hand listing describes a particular item at a particular moment. The condition, accessories and seller’s return terms can matter as much as the price. Before deciding to buy, save the listing, the full share text and screenshots of the details you are relying on.

Turn “good condition” into specific questions
Broad descriptions can mean different things to different people. Try asking about observable details:
- Are there scratches, cracks, stains, corrosion or missing parts?
- Have there been repairs, modifications or replacements?
- Which accessories, manuals, cables or original boxes are included?
- Can the seller provide photographs of a particular area?
- Is the item the exact model or edition you are looking for?
For a powered item, explain the function you need confirmed. A photograph showing an item turned on may answer one question, but does not establish every function or long-term reliability. If specialist testing is necessary, identify that need before purchasing.
Keep the limits of seller replies in view
We can help communicate with the seller and organize their answers. A seller’s statement remains the seller’s statement. It is not an independent certification of authenticity, ownership history or the absence of internal damage.
Likewise, reasonable negotiation assistance does not guarantee a price reduction. Availability can change while messages are exchanged. A request is only an inquiry until the purchase details and next steps have been agreed.
Understand the Xianyu buying fee
For a single-platform Xianyu order, buying assistance costs a fixed US$5 when the order’s product subtotal is up to CNY 300. Above CNY 300, the fee is 10% of the entire product subtotal. Only one service fee applies. The fixed fee is billed separately in USD, without automatic conversion. Domestic shipping, international shipping and taxes are excluded from the product fee base. The threshold uses a CNY product subtotal; orders priced in other currencies require an individual quote without an assumed exchange rate. Agree on checks and return conditions early
Tell us which visible details should be photographed after the item arrives. Include a list of expected accessories and whether seals or collector’s packaging should remain untouched. Opening or altering packaging may affect value or return options.
Ask about the seller’s return conditions before approving the purchase. The ability to return an unwanted used item should not be assumed. If a problem is found during an agreed check, the next step depends on the circumstances, seller terms and the work already carried out.
Review shipping eligibility before committing
The item category and destination can affect whether a route is available. Batteries, liquids, fragile goods and large objects may need additional review. A seller’s willingness to ship domestically does not establish that the item can travel internationally.
The final shipping quote can require packed measurements. For a valuable or fragile item, confirm what protection is planned and what remains outside the inspection or shipping scope.
Free warehouse storage is available for 30 days. The start date and any extended-storage fees are confirmed in your quote before storage is extended.
Send a request that supports a decision
A useful request says what you want to buy, what must be checked and what would cause you to decline it. For example: “Please ask for close-up photos of the hinge and the included accessories. I do not want an item with a repaired hinge. Please keep the original box.”
There is no promise of a risk-free used purchase. Better questions, documented answers and an agreed check make the decision more informed.
